K9 Roadshow -- Stars Shine Their Support

August 1998 Canarian Weekly

The animals rescued by local animal charity K9, will benefit once more from generous funds raised at the K9 Roadshow, this time held at Blaydon Races Bar in The Patch on Sunday night, August 23.

It was a brilliant evening provided by a parade of artists turning up and giving their time by doing free shows, either on their way to or from an already busy schedule.

The evening was opened by Jacquie and Rose, otherwise known as The Golden Girls, before they began their night's 'work'. They were followed by a young man, William, just 11 years of age, who sang and played guitar impressively. George Peņa breezed in to give us a burst of his comic, or is that cosmic? energy, before rushing off to his next show.

More regulars, both to the bar and in giving their time to performing at K9 events, were duo, Howard and Tom, a.k.a., Rif-Raf.

K9 muck-shoveller, Michaela Sydney, cleaned herself up again to do two shows that evening and still came along to give us a third performance for the dogs. What energy that girl has! The big-voiced Nicky Paul also gave us a few numbers at the end of the night.

The value of these people's contributions must be emphasised: encouraging people to dig deep into their pockets for the animals rather than for any personal gain is a noble act indeed and one for which K9 gives them their heartfelt thanks.

They say that the animals have no voice, but these people prove that they do: a fine singing voice, after all.

The entertainment, interspersed with raffles and quizzes, made another fun night and valuable fund-raiser for the charity.

The next Roadshow was held at The George and Dragon, La Paz on Friday, August 28 and another is coming up at the Tucan: date to be confirmed, but watch the press for details. Where else can you see such a night of entertainment and knowing that it is all in aid of a good cause can surely only add to the enjoyment?
